Provider Engagement Strategy

This strategy sets out the approach we will take to our communication and engagement activities with providers contributing to the health and wellbeing of citizens within Nottingham City to enable collaborative working to ensure the best possible outcomes for Nottingham Citizens.

Working with providers, we will deliver the best value through the most efficient and effective use of resources, whether through contracts, service level agreements or where citizens purchase directly from the provider, ensuring that the best possible social and financial value is achieved for our citizens. Supporting service providers and community groups to access alternative funding streams will also help to generate additional income for Nottingham City. This will have the benefit of shaping healthy and diverse social care markets and building capacity to meet the needs of our citizens.

Our external, independent adult social care sector in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire plays a critical role in supporting the well-being and quality of life for our residents. As our community grows, the demand for high-quality social care services continues to rise. This increasing demand, coupled with the complexities of modern care needs, highlights the need for a forward-thinking plan for its workforce.

Developing this strategic plan is a first step in our aspiration that our independent social care workforce are recognised and respected for their vital contributions to our local community across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The plan outlines what the workforce looks like and what the sector has told us is needed to build a sustainable, skilled, and motivated workforce, capable of delivering high-quality care now and in the future.

Commissioning and Partnerships: Strengthening Engagement and Innovation

Commissioning and Partnerships (C&P) remain committed to building strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.

We continue to work closely with the Nottingham Care Association to strengthen provider engagement and foster transparent, effective partnerships. Our engagement with the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) has progressed significantly. In collaboration with NCVS and other voluntary sector partners, we have completed analysis of the recent engagement survey and shared the results with NCVS.

Training, development and co-design opportunities were widely promoted, with strong attendance at our sessions. Looking ahead, we have a series of engagement events planned throughout the year with NCVS and the wider voluntary sector.

These events will support VCS partners with access to guidance, training, and wider opportunities to collaborate, innovate, and grow.

The "You Said We Did" Document outlines updates and commitments in areas such as mental health, substance misuse, day services, workforce challenges, residential care, and provider quality. The Council acknowledges gaps in engagement and commits to improving communication, transparency, and collaboration with providers, including regular updates, named contacts, and opportunities for co-production through forums and the Provider Corner
