Safeguarding is everyone responsibility - Supporting Early Years Provides and Professionals to keep children safe in Nottingham
Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Partnership (NCSCP) brings together services, organisations, and the community to keep children safe and promote their wellbeing across Nottingham city. They provide safeguarding procedures, guidance, training, and resources, including CPD courses to support professionals working with children.

New Statutory Information Sharing Duty for Early Years Providers
A new statutory information sharing duty came into force on 30 September 2026, which applies to early years providers and strengthens how organisations share information to help safeguard children and promote their welfare. The aim is to ensure that professionals can share relevant information, at the right time, so that children and families receive support as early as possible. Effective information sharing supports prevention and early help, enabling practitioners to identify emerging concerns, assess needs, make informed decisions, and coordinate support before concerns escalate.
Under the new duty, relevant information about a child, or people connected to them, must be shared when doing so could help another organisation:
- Assess a child's needs
- Make safeguarding or welfare decisions
- Provide support or intervention or
- Take action to protect a child and promote their welfare
Importantly, information sharing is not limited to situations where a child is at immediate risk of harm or meets child protection thresholds. Whilst all information sharing must continue to comply with data protection legislation and confidentiality requirements, consent is not required when sharing information under the duty. However, providers should continue to work openly and honestly with families wherever appropriate and safe to do so.
