A Blue Badge is a parking permit that helps people with disabilities or health conditions park closer to their destination.

The scheme is used across England and is designed to support people who have difficulty walking, travelling safely, or accessing services because of a disability. This includes people with visible and non‑visible (hidden) disabilities.

A Blue Badge can be used whether you are the driver or a passenger. The badge belongs to the person, not the vehicle.

What a Blue Badge helps with

A Blue Badge can make everyday journeys easier by allowing you to:

  • Park in disabled parking bays
  • Park closer to shops, services, and public buildings
  • Reduce the distance you need to walk between your car and your destination

Where and how you can use a Blue Badge can vary depending on local parking rules. You should always check signs and restrictions before parking.

Blue Badges are issued by local councils, including Nottingham City Council, in line with the national Blue Badge scheme.

To get a Blue Badge, you must apply and meet the eligibility criteria. Some people qualify automatically, while others may need further assessment.

  • A Blue Badge is for your use only
  • It must be clearly displayed when you park
  • Misuse of a Blue Badge can result in a fine and the badge being taken away

As a blue badge holder you can park in designated disabled parking bays, pay and display parking bays, on yellow lines and within time restricted parking bays. For more information visit our webpage:
