Overview
Acorn Resource Centre is a dedicated Day Service managed by Nottingham City Council, located in the heart of Hyson Green. We proudly support adults aged 18 and over with physical and sensory disabilities, providing a safe, nurturing environment where our Citizens can lead healthy, active, and independent lives.
Our Mission
At Acorn Resource Centre, our mission is to empower adults with disabilities by offering a range of person-centred support and activities that promote independence, well-being, and social inclusion.
We believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling life, and we are committed to making that possible for our Citizens.
Experienced and Caring Staff: Our team is highly trained in supporting adults with physical and sensory disabilities. We are passionate about providing the best possible care and creating a positive atmosphere for all.
Tailored Support: Our dedicated team works closely with each Citizen to develop tailored support plans that address their unique needs and goals. Whether it's assistance with daily tasks, mobility support, or guidance in pursuing personal interests, we're here to help.
Health and Well-Being: We place a strong emphasis on promoting the health and well-being of our Citizens. Through regular physical activities, healthy eating initiatives, and mental health support, we aim to improve the overall quality of life for everyone in our care.
Social Interaction: Building friendships and social connections is a key aspect of our program. We provide opportunities for our Citizens to interact, share experiences, and support one another in a friendly and inclusive environment.
Personal Care: with several fully accessible bathrooms, including ceiling tracking hoists, we can provide personal care to those who require it in a dignified and respectful manner. All staff are fully trained and treat all with Dignity and Respect.
We provide a variety of activities, each carefully crafted to enhance different aspects of our citizens’ lives:
Independence Skills: some of our activities focus on developing and strengthening independence. These may include daily living skills, mobility training, and other practical tasks designed to boost confidence and self-reliance.
Pure Fun and Enjoyment: We believe in the importance of joy and laughter in everyday life. Our fun-focused activities range from arts and crafts, music, and games to social events and recreational outings. These activities are designed to bring smiles and foster a sense of community.
Flexible Participation: Depending on the activity and the level of support required, citizens can engage on their own, with the assistance of a Care Worker, or as part of a group. This flexibility ensures that everyone can participate in a way that suits them best, whether they prefer one-on-one attention or enjoy being part of a social group.
Community Engagement: Located in the heart of Hyson Green, we are situated within the vibrant Mary Potter Centre. We share a fully accessible garden with the local library and participate in many community initiatives.
Whilst spending time at Acorn, we offer tea, coffee, or cold drinks.
Filtered drinking water and juice are available all day as we feel it is important to your health and wellbeing to stay hydrated.
Lunch is not provided so you are more than welcome to bring your own packed lunch if you wish.

We welcome adults over the age of 18 from all backgrounds. Eligibility for our services is determined through an assessment conducted by social work teams or the adult contact centre. Self-referrals are also welcomed.
Fees vary based on the level of support needed and are determined after a taster session and assessment. A financial assessment by the Fairer Charging Team will decide the contribution required to attend the Centre.
Nottingham City Council has eligibility criteria to identify citizens eligible for day care services, prioritizing those with high support needs. Assessments are generally done by social work teams and the adult contact centre, though some citizens refer themselves.
If you wish to buy services without an assessment, please contact us directly for more details using the contact number at the end of this page
