Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Partnership is exploring a dynamic training offer that reflects the learning needs to be identified each year. We will post more information about this shortly.

What courses and Information is available?

On this page, you can access a wide range of free or low-cost e-learning and resources designed to support work to safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults.

After completing the course.

On completion of a course, practitioners should notify their agency training representative to ensure that e-learning is captured on their training record.

Introduction to Adverse Childhood Experiences

This 50 minute free course has been funded by the Home Office Early Intervention Fund

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) YouTube Video

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that affect children while growing up, such as suffering child maltreatment or living in a household affected by domestic violence, substance misuse or mental illness.

Introduction to the Prevent duty

This is a free course that offers an introduction to the Prevent duty and explains how it aims to safeguard vulnerable people from being radicalised to supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists themselves.

Prevent referrals

This package builds on the Prevent awareness e-learning training. It is designed to make sure that when we share a concern that a vulnerable individual may be being radicalised, that the referral is robust, informed and with good intention, and that the response to that concern is considered, and proportionate.

Channel awareness

This training package is for anyone who may be asked to contribute to, sit on, or even run a Channel Panel. It is aimed at all levels, from a professional who is asked to input and attend for the first time, to a member of staff new to their role and organising a panel meeting.

ACT (Action Counters Terrorism)

ACT eLearning is a counter terrorism awareness product designed for all UK based companies and organisations and available to the public.

Is Someone Close Becoming a Stranger?

It can be hard to know what to do if you’re worried someone close is expressing extreme views or hatred, which could lead to them harming themselves or others. Working with other organisations, the police protect vulnerable people from being exploited by extremists through a Home Office programme called Prevent. 

 

Child Attachment

NICE has developed this e-learning on children’s attachment.  The e-learning aims to support practitioners to better understand attachment, the causes of attachment difficulties, how to recognise the signs of attachment difficulties and how to support children and families affected by attachment difficulties.

Attachment in children and young people

This resource covers the identification, assessment and treatment of attachment difficulties in children and young people up to age 18 who are adopted from care, in special guardianship, looked after by local authorities in foster homes (including kinship foster care), residential settings and other accommodation, or on the edge of care. It aims to address the many emotional and psychological needs of children and young people in these situations, including those resulting from maltreatment.

I'm Lucy: Children are not protective factors

In response to practice learning which indicated that potential risks to children maybe obscured by professionals viewing children as protective factors for their parent or carer's mental health, the KSCMP has developed the 'I'm Lucy' resources.

The resources are designed to highlight that children are not responsible for protecting or improving the mental well being of their parent or carer and prompt professionals to consider their own practice, and whether potential risk of harm to children identified, understood and responded to. The resources include a video and reflection tool for use in team meetings, supervision and individual reflection.

CSE training resource, ‘Keep them Safe' 

PACE (Parents against Child Sexual Exploitation) is providing a free CSE training resource for parents and professionals called 'Keep them Safe'. It is an introductory online course designed to help teach the signs and impacts of CSE and what to do if you think a child is being exploited. The resource provides a good overall understanding of CSE with links to films and resources as well as e-safety advice.

Foster caring handbooks
