Find out how you can book a Wedding or Civil Partnership at The Council House, or for a Registrar to attend an approved premise.
Did you know you can book your wedding reception or any other celebratory event at the prestigious Council House in the Old Market Square?
Alternatively, would you like to have a celebratory Champagne toast? Drinks will be served in your room of choice after your ceremony.
Please ring us for more information, prices and book to come to see our range of rooms on 0115 841 5554.
All Civil Weddings and Civil Partnerships must be attended by a Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar in the district where the ceremony will take place. If your ceremony is at an approved venue in Nottingham or The Nottingham Register Office, this will be the district of Nottingham.
From 4th May 2021 a change in Legislation will mean that all Civil and Religious weddings will be registered by a legal document called a Marriage Schedule. This will be provided by the Register Office after the Notice Period. The Schedule will have spaces for couples to record both mother and father's details. There will be no green handwritten Registers any more and certificates cannot be issued on the day of the wedding. For Civil Marriages couples will then be able to purchase their Marriage Certificates by using the online ordering system on this website (please allow 7 days).
After a Religious Marriage, the Church Minister must return the signed Marriage Schedule to their local Register Office as soon as possible after the wedding (within 21 days). Once the Register Office has received this and checked it (please allow 7 days for this) then couples will then be able to purchase their Marriage Certificates by using the online ordering system on this website.
Similar legislation will apply to Church of England or Wales Churches. Banns will still be read instead of Notices of Marriage, and those Churches will provide the new Marriage Document to sign and return to the Register Office after the wedding.
You can book a Registrar for a ceremony in the City of Nottingham by calling us on our office number at 0115 841 5554 or please email us your contact details at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
- A deposit of £75 is required to book a ceremony at the Council House*
- A deposit of £100 is required to book a ceremony at an Approved premise*
The balance is payable one month before the ceremony and no refunds will be given for cancelled ceremonies within one month of the date. However, if a ceremony is rearranged no further fee will be payable.
*Please note, while you may pay for your service with cash or card, we do not accept £50 notes or cheques.
Prices for Registration Officers to attend at Approved premises in Nottingham (other than Council House):
- Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership: £35 or £47 each
- Certificate of Marriage or Civil Partnership: £11 each
- Attendance of Registrars at a religious building: £86
In addition to your choice of the legal words of marriage declaration, you or one of your guests may want to contribute a poem or reading to your ceremony. You may also have a favourite piece of music special to you both that you would like to be played before and after your ceremony when the register is being signed.
Any such music or additions you may like to be considered for inclusion in the marriage ceremony must be secular in nature and have been agreed by one of the Superintendent Registrars prior to the day of your marriage.
A Statutory Ceremony is a Wedding or Civil Partnership held in a licensed working office in the Council House. This ceremony has no music and is a very low key ceremony with you, your partner and just two witnesses.
The current fee for this ceremony is £46 plus £11 per certificate. If you intend to have a Statutory ceremony you must state this before you give your Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership as this will be stated on your paperwork.
If you would like to find out more about Statutory Ceremonies then please contact the Nottingham Register Office on 0115 841 5554
