Personalising.

In addition to your choice of the legal words of marriage declaration, you or one of your guests may want to contribute a poem or reading to your ceremony. You may also have a favourite piece of music special to you both that you would like to be played before and after your ceremony when the register is being signed.

Any such music or additions you may like to be considered for inclusion in the marriage ceremony must be secular in nature and have been agreed by one of the Superintendent Registrars prior to the day of your marriage.

Please note that unfortunately pets are not allowed in the Council House. Should you or a guest have a medically trained dog (e.g. guide dogs) then please contact us in advance before making your booking.

Statutory Ceremony

A Statutory Ceremony is a Wedding or Civil Partnership held in a licensed working office in the Council House. This ceremony has no music and is a very low key ceremony with you, your partner and just two witnesses.

The current fee for this ceremony is £46 plus £11 per certificate. If you intend to have a Statutory ceremony you must state this before you give your Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership as this will be stated on your paperwork.

If you would like to find out more about Statutory Ceremonies then please contact the Nottingham Register Office on 0115 841 5554

From 4th May 2021 a change in Legislation will mean that all Civil and Religious weddings will be registered by a legal document called a Marriage Schedule.

This will be provided by the Register Office after the Notice Period. The Schedule will have spaces for couples to record both mother and father's details. There will be no green handwritten Registers any more and certificates cannot be issued on the day of the wedding.

For Civil Marriages couples will then be able to purchase their Marriage Certificates by using the online ordering system on this website (please allow 7 days).

After a Religious Marriage, the Church Minister must return the signed Marriage Schedule to their local Register Office as soon as possible after the wedding (within 21 days). Once the Register Office has received this and checked it (please allow 7 days for this) then couples will then be able to purchase their Marriage Certificates by using the online ordering system on this website.

Similar legislation will apply to Church of England or Wales Churches.  Banns will still be read instead of Notices of Marriage, and those Churches will provide the new Marriage Document to sign and return to the Register Office after the wedding.
