Greener HousiNG
The Greener HousiNG Team at Nottingham City Council works across the city to improve the energy efficiency of homes, reduce carbon and energy use and create healthy, comfortable places for people to live.
This work supports the UK's commitment to become net zero by 2050 alongside Nottingham’s ambitions to become the UK’s first Carbon Neutral City by 2028.

Through Nottingham City Council’s Greener HousiNG schemes, we have made improvements to both social and privately owned homes. These upgrades include insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Over the last three years through schemes including Local Authority Delivery (LAD) 1b, LAD2, LAD3, Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) 1 and HUG 2 and Devolution Funding we have installed over 1150 measures in private and rented homes across the city. The next funding scheme, Warm Homes: Local Grant has been announced and is expected to start in the summer.
We have had excellent feedback for our installs, please see below:
Our Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) feedback:
“Very pleased, any issues or concerns I had they would come back and sort things. [The contractors] have been available and responsive. Very happy with them, I am satisfied with the installation and it will make a big difference to my quality of life, especially health wise.”
Another successful applicant stated:
“I cannot fault [the contractor] at all, they were absolutely brilliant. They communicated well about the job being moved a day later than scheduled, cleaned up after themselves. Job took a day shorter than planned, cleaned up rubbish left behind. Communicated well about the plans involved for the ASHP and the changes needed for it to be installed. Electrician was absolutely brilliant too. I am very satisfied”.
Where people received more than one measure we also receive positive feedback such as this applicant who had wall insulation and an Air Source Heat Pump: “I can already see an improvement. It has improved the condensation in the home. The work looks nice and neat and it is a markable improvement, as it looks more aesthetically pleasing”.
If you would like to be involved in our next scheme, more information will follow in early summer. All applications are taken through our customer journey support team at Nottingham Energy Partnership. The funding will be open to people living in their own homes and some private rental accommodation. See below for details of eligibility criteria.
The aim of the new funding is to raise the energy efficiency of homes that are hard to keep warm. This will be achieved by delivering a range of fully funded energy-saving upgrades including home insulation and/or free low-carbon heating measures.
These measures aim to make your home more comfortable, helping to lower your energy usage and carbon emissions.
What energy-saving upgrades could I receive?
The energy-saving upgrades available (often referred to as ‘measures’) range from loft insulation, solid or cavity wall insulation, or renewable energy systems such as solar PV panels, batteries and air source heat pumps.
Please be aware that the measures vary in availability and will depend on what is suitable for your property. This will be determined following a retrofit assessment and technical survey of your home.
Will I be eligible?
You may be eligible if you:
- Have an annual household income below £36,000 (gross) or are in receipt of certain benefits
- Your home has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) between D and G
Please note that only households who meet the scheme criteria will be eligible for a grant and you may be asked for proof of income to ensure eligibility criteria is met. If you do not have a valid EPC on your home, we can arrange for this to be completed for you.
For more information and to register your interest please call Nottingham Energy Partnership on 0115 947.
