Reduction of Carbon in New Development SPD
Nottingham City Council and Broxtowe Borough Council have produced a joint Supplementary Planning Document on the Reduction of Carbon in New Development (Carbon SPD). The SPD was adopted on 17 June 2025. For applications registered from this date onwards, the Carbon SPD will be considered by the Council as a material consideration.
The SPD provides detailed advice and guidance on policies in the adopted Local Plans and elaborates on how new developments can meet low carbon requirements through;
- Energy and Carbon Reduction; and
- Sustainable Construction.

The Councils sought views on the contents of the SPD for six weeks, with the consultation closing on Monday 30th September.
