With the development of our railway station into a transport hub, an extended world-class tram system, and a fantastic bus network that has two award-winning bus operators; Nottingham is one of the leading cities in the UK for public transport.

To deliver this vision the Council needs a strong and clear strategy.

Nottingham Local Transport Plan

The Nottingham Local Transport Plan (LTP) is a statutory document and outlines the City Council's long term transport strategy and three-year rolling investment programme. The current LTP came into effect on 1 April 2011. Each year, an implementation plan is produced, with the latest version found below:

Other Local Transport Strategies and Plans

The City Council has published many other supplementary transport plans to the Nottingham Local Transport Plan. These documents can be accessed here:

  • 2018 Air Quality Annual Status Report: The report gives information about air quality monitoring results, new local developments that may impact on air quality, and implementation action plans which are being progressed
  • Public Transport Information Plan 2014 to 2019: This strategy sets out the standards of information provision, including specification, types and outlets
  • Rights of Way Improvement Plan 1: Outline information of our historic network of public rights of way and a statement of actions to preserve and make improvements to this network
  • Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2 (2015): Nottingham's Second Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP2) outlining improvements to walking, cycling and riding network across Nottingham
  • Public Rights of Way, Planning and Development Guiderelating to public transport priority areas; including, operational information, integrated journeys, provision and maintenance of facilities and monitoring and auditing across services
  • Nottingham Bus Strategy 2014 to 2019: This strategy sets out the simple vision to ensure that buses play a central role in providing simple affordable and integrated public transport system in Nottingham City and the Conurbation
  • Cycle Action Plan 2012 to 2015: A Plan detailing how we intend to make Nottingham a cycle-friendly City
  • Smartcard and Integrated Ticketing Strategy: Development of targeted discounts for key groups and an integrated smartcard platform to facilitate the cost-effective administration of a diverse range of ticketing needs
  • Statement of Policy for the use of Barriers To Rights of Way: Details the City Council's position on the use of safety barriers or other objects or structures on the local rights of way network within the Council's area
  • Statutory Bus Quality Partnership Scheme (SQPS):The UK's first city-centre-wide partnership between the City Council and local bus operators to adhere to a framework which ensures increased demand to access the city centre is provided for by an expanding high quality public transport network, a funding application to expand the SQPS was recently submitted through the Better Bus Areas Bid to the Department for Transport
  • Highways Asset Management Plan describes how the public highway assets are managed and maintained through lifecycle planning, levels of service and improvement actions
  • River Leen Access and Biodiversity Study: A vision and action plan for the potential multi-user (walk and cycle) path along the River Leen corridor, key strategy linked to the Cycle Action Plan document
  • Annual Monitoring Report: Provides an annual update of Local Transport Plan progress over 2017 to 2018
