Our Emergency Duty Team plays a vital role in providing an out-of-hours response when children, vulnerable adults and families need urgent support.
The role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT) as an Advanced Social Work Practitioner.
Working for the Emergency Duty Team you will be part of a small team, managing the shift and responding to all urgent safeguarding contacts for children, young people and vulnerable adults received outside office hours. You will be supported by your colleagues, Team Manager and a Head of Service on Call.
You will be required to triage each contact, liaise with partner agencies and apply safeguarding threshold to make proportionate, appropriate and timely responses, with safe plans until the next working day.
Working for the Emergency Duty Team demands the need to be able to work under pressure with limited information and quickly form professional relationships with partner agency professionals. You will undertake all urgent safeguarding measures, ensuring children and vulnerable adults are safe with their needs met and prioritised outside office hours.
Alongside managing complex and high-risk safeguarding situations, you will provide professional guidance and support to colleagues on shift, helping to ensure consistent application of threshold, decision making and best practice.
This is a hybrid role, with office-based working during weekends, working a six-week rolling rota.
Over the rota cycle you will cover a range of shifts, including:
- 8.00am - 4.30pm
- 4.30pm - 1.00am
- 12.30am - 8.30am
- 10.00am - 10.00pm
Enhanced payments are paid in addition to salary for working unsocial hours.
You will:
- Provide expert advice, guidance and decision making in relation to safeguarding emergencies outside office hours.

About you
You are an experienced social worker with a minimum of three years' post-qualification experience, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident making sound decisions under pressure and in isolation, whilst managing risk. You have strong safeguarding knowledge, excellent analytical skills and the ability to support others through complex situations.
You will bring:
- A recognised social work qualification and Social Work England registration
- At least three years' post-qualification experience working with children, young people and families

As a Policy and Reporting Officer, you will play a key role in supporting service improvement across Children's Services through the development of policies, performance reporting and quality assurance activity.
Working closely with managers, practitioners and partner agencies, you will support the development, review and implementation of policies, procedures and practice guidance, ensuring they reflect current legislation, statutory requirements and organisational priorities. You will help ensure staff have access to clear and effective guidance that supports consistent and high-quality practice.
You will be responsible for collating, analysing and reporting on performance and service data, producing accurate reports, dashboards and management information to support decision-making, service planning and continuous improvement. Through the effective use of data and intelligence, you will help identify trends, monitor performance and support the delivery of improvement priorities.
Working across a range of services, you will contribute to quality assurance processes, including audits, reviews and inspections, helping to evidence good practice and identify opportunities to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
