Fly-tipping is a #RubbishDeal for all of us. It damages neighbourhoods, harms the environment and costs money that could otherwise be spent on vital public services.
Every year, thousands of people across the country pay for waste to be removed, believing they are using a legitimate service. Unfortunately, some waste removal operators advertise online and on social media, collect payment, and then illegally dump the waste elsewhere.
Fight Fly-tipping Fortnight
We're proud to be partners with Keep Britain Tidy for their national anti-fly-tipping campaign Fight Fly-tipping Fortnight. Together, we're calling on everyone in Nottingham to check who you pay to take your rubbish away.
The campaign aims to help residents recognise the warning signs of waste removal scams, understand their legal responsibility when disposing of waste, and take simple steps to avoid becoming an accidental victim of fly-tipping.
Don't get scammed. Protect your community from fly-tipping.
If you're paying someone to remove your waste, follow these simple steps:
- Ask for a waste carrier registration number.
- Check it on the Environment Agency's public register or call 0300 065 3000.
- Check you'll get a receipt.
If your waste ends up being fly-tipped, you could face a fine, even if someone else dumped it. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
By checking who you hire and asking the right questions, you can help prevent fly-tipping, protect your local environment and stop rogue operators from profiting from illegal activity.
