About our Organisation

We deliver free, independent quality social welfare law advice, including benefits, debts, energy debt / efficiency and housing through a range of projects. Our service extends from basic letter reading / interpreting, form filling, through to full advocacy and representation at appeals and tribunals. People are supported through ‘crisis’ by providing practical help (food, clothing, basic goods, and energy vouchers) and then by experienced advisors to resolve the presenting issue and to work towards longer term stability. We have been delivering in this area for over 40 years and are well known and respected across the city.

About our UKSPF project - Please note this project was completed at the end of June 2024.

The project will enhance the existing provision of a vibrant neighbourhood centre in the heart of St Anns. It will complement the other projects we run at the centre which include the provision of welfare rights and debt advice, a community café serving healthy affordable food, an independent food bank and support with IT and employment skills.

The aim of the centre coordinator post funded by the UKSPF is to draw together all the various elements of activities in the centre to support individuals / families. Also, to encourage other stakeholders to promote their services through the centre and to provide energy efficiency measures and advice to those who access the building.

We will be providing events and activities, throughout the project, that bring people together to embrace community cohesion, support individuals with help and advice and encourage volunteering and engagement in positive experiences.

Events will be held at Easter, Summer, Halloween, and Christmas. In the colder months, we will also run a ‘warm hub’, offering free hot food and activities to individuals and families, on a Wednesday till 8pm.
