About our Organisation
We deliver free, independent quality social welfare law advice, including benefits, debts, energy debt / efficiency and housing through a range of projects. Our service extends from basic letter reading / interpreting, form filling, through to full advocacy and representation at appeals and tribunals. People are supported through ‘crisis’ by providing practical help (food, clothing, basic goods, and energy vouchers) and then by experienced advisors to resolve the presenting issue and to work towards longer term stability. We have been delivering in this area for over 40 years and are well known and respected across the city.
About our UKSPF project
Our target audience is people whose first language is not English and have been resident for 5 years and over but have had no opportunity to access formal training/courses with qualifications. These learners will be able to converse in English but are not confident in formal situations, form completion or IT usage.
There will be other learners who have been in the country for less than 3 years who may have good levels of English but are not eligible for most funded training/courses. These residents may have a low understanding of the UK job market, application procedures and job search navigation. They may be new to the area.
There will also be those Uk residents (over 5 years) + but have had no opportunity to access ESOL training due to culture traditions, childcare, eligibility for funding (e.g. if on spouse Visa). These residents experience low confidence in speaking and accessing services and progressing into the job market.
We will provide courses on
ESOL to employment general, with digital support
and ESOL to employment focused, with digital support.
In addition, we will offer an informal drop-in Information Session at the Centre – advertised via posters as well as through word of mouth.
