Name of Organisation: The Indian Community Centre Association (The ICCA)
Short Description of Organisation
The ICCA opened in 1979 and was the first community centre for the Indian community. Over the years, The ICCA has become a multicultural centre, focused on providing high-quality services to the entire community.
The ICCA provides a range of community services aimed at all age groups with some specifically for people living in disadvantaged areas. Some of the community services include: freshly cooked Indian meals; Daycare service; processing Visas; cultural and other free events including Independence Day; Republic Day; Badminton; Memory Club; Community Hub; Film Club; Drama For Children, and Hygiene Bank.
Summary of planned improvements
The ICCA is a landmark building is part of the Thomas Foreman factory that was the first purpose built printing factory in the United Kingdom.
The building by its nature has large rooms and high ceilings. The external walls are very thick concrete block build, with no insulation. The roof is also concrete and flat. The building is heated/cooled by a single commercial heating cooling system. The individual rooms can only be controlled by thermostatic valves. The building is extremely expensive to heat in the winter and keep cool in the summer. Service users constantly complain about the temperature within the building. One of the existing rooms is used for storage only as there is no heating in the room. This can be brought back for community use.
Therefore, The ICCA would like to:
i) replace all the lights in the main conference room with LED lights. The tube lights and bulbs used in some of the units are being phased away and soon will become obsolete.
ii) Install individual/standalone heating/air conditioning units in the individual meeting rooms. These will enable users to feel much more comfortable by controlling the room temperatures to meet their needs.
