Bestwood Park Day Nursery, established in 2015 as a Community Interest Company, provides vital early years education and childcare in one of the UK’s most deprived areas. It offers funded and paid places to support families facing unemployment, poverty, and isolation.

Beyond childcare, the nursery delivers family-focused sessions, wraparound care, parenting support, and adult education opportunities designed to meet diverse community needs. Its inclusive events—such as seaside trips and holiday activities—foster joy and belonging.

Through partnerships with schools and local groups, the nursery helps break cycles of disadvantage and improve outcomes for children and families in Bestwood.

Summary of planned improvements 

Parent/Community Enhancement Proposal

Recent funding enabled the nursery to add a garden room, creating valuable space for children and families to play, learn, and engage. The next stage of the plan is to enhance this space to better support local families facing complex challenges.

Proposed Improvements:

• Fully equipped kitchen – for cooking sessions, healthy eating initiatives, and life-skills workshops.
• Interior upgrade – with comfortable, child-friendly furnishings to create a welcoming, multi-use space.
• Improved toilet facilities – supporting hygiene and comfort during longer sessions.
• Enhanced play areas – indoor and outdoor sensory spaces to keep children safely engaged
• Additional storage – for safe, organised delivery of projects and resources.

Impact:

These improvements will enable the expansion of parenting support programs, deliver wellbeing workshops, and host group sessions for families involved with social services. The upgraded space will also be available to professionals and community partners, encouraging collaboration and greater reach. Investing in this central space will create a more inclusive, flexible, and family-focused environment—strengthening support networks and improving outcomes for vulnerable families in Bestwood and beyond.
