UKSPF Business Support Grants

Nottingham City Council is committed to supporting our city’s business community. We are targeting a portion of our UKSPF funding to support local businesses through a business support grant programme.

Grants can make a huge difference to your business. They can help you push your business further, enable you to make game-changing investments you couldn’t manage alone, and at Nottingham City Council they come with expert support every step of the way.

We have established two capital grant schemes to support and sustain existing businesses in the city. These grants build on the success of our previous UKSPF business grants scheme which made 109 awards to local businesses totalling more than £550,000.

Nottingham City Council is again inviting businesses to apply for grant funding to support business growth, productivity improvements and carbon reduction.

General Eligibility

To qualify for support applicant businesses must:

  • Have business premises in Nottingham
  • Have been trading for a minimum of 12 months
  • Not be a home-based business
  • Be able to fund at least half of the project cost
  • Be able to show that the project is financially viable and that grant support is needed to make it happen
  • Have received less than £315,000 of state aid/subsidy (minus the grant amount applied for) over the current and previous two fiscal years
  • Have a UK based bank account in the name of the business

Available funding

The Business Growth and Productivity Grant aims to support the city’s businesses to deliver growth, improve productivity and create new jobs. It will support businesses to contribute to local economic growth through new investment, supporting the expansion and diversification of existing businesses located in Nottingham.

The grant will support businesses to grow and improve their productivity, improving how they measure and report productivity gains through the provision of capital grants.

The project will provide up to 50% grant funding for investments. The maximum amount of grant that can be awarded is £15,000. The balance of the investment must be provided by the applicant.

Priority will be given to those applicants that can best demonstrate how the grant will have a positive impact on business growth, productivity and the creation of new employment in Nottingham.

The grant operates over two stages – an expression of interest followed by a full application. Support is available through the Nottingham City Growth Hub Team to help applicants develop their understanding and measurement of productivity in the business and to complete and submit applications to the grant.

The scheme will remain open to applications until all funding has been committed.

The Business Decarbonisation Grant provides a source of funding for businesses in Nottingham to reduce their energy related costs and carbon emissions. This will allow businesses in the city to:

  • Reduce their operating costs
  • Become more competitive, resilient and productive
  • Potentially safeguard and create jobs through improved profitability and reinvestment of savings
  • Become a more environmentally friendly business by reducing carbon emissions

The grant will support businesses to invest in carbon reduction technologies, products and services that will directly reduce their energy consumption, by offering a financial incentive to support and promote their investments. This grant scheme is designed to allow businesses to invest in the short term for their longer-term sustainability and support the City of Nottingham and the UK government to achieve our Net Zero targets.

The maximum grant is £10,000 and the minimum grant is £1,000. The grant will support up to 50% of the costs of installing carbon reduction measures, the remaining funds being provided by the applicant business.

Typical projects could be:

  • Installation of LED lighting
  • Installation of energy efficient heating and cooling systems
  • Installation of insulation
  • Installation of solar panels
    Replacement of inefficient boilers
