About our Organisation
Bulwell Forest Garden is a community green space, where people come together through growing, playing, socialising, learning, cooking and caring for the land.
Our aims are:
1. To develop a community garden to include food growing, wildlife areas and community spaces, creating a stronger sense of community responsibility and ownership.
2. To provide opportunities for local people and the wider community to come together, learn about, and be involved with, growing food and have access to affordable fruit and vegetables.
3. To support healthy-living, environmental and food growing education, training and volunteering for all ages including community groups and schools.
About our UKSPF Project
Bulwell Forest Garden will support participants over 12 weeks to learn about gardening, food growing and conservation, with a minimum of one session per week, but the option to attend more frequently if they wish, working alongside our Horticultural Project Worker and Lead Volunteers. As well as learning transferable skills to improve employability, participants will also strengthen their social skills, self confidence and both physical and mental well-being. All participants are invited to join us for a free lunch each Friday, when we harvest, cook and share food together.
This opportunity is open to anyone living in Nottingham, starting 2 June 2025.
All participants will also receive 1:1 support sessions with our Volunteer Coordinator, setting personal goals and planning their progression pathways depending on their individual abilities and pace, and can include
- Personal development training including anxiety management and confidence building
- Work-related training suitable to BFG volunteering roles, e.g. first aid, health and safety, food hygiene
- CFL entry level Green Skills courses, delivered by our Horticultural Manager
- Lead Volunteering (returning to BFG volunteering, offering peer support following CFL course)
- Support into employment – 1:1 support and courses available through Bestwood Partnership.
