Nottingham City Letting Board Policy Online Consultation Survey

Nottingham City Council is looking to reinstate restrictions on the display of letting boards in certain areas of Nottingham where there is a high concentration of student housing and other Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). These controls previously helped reduce the visual clutter of ‘To Let’ boards but expired in 2023.

Previously nine areas were identified where letting boards were not permitted on residential properties without the council’s consent unless the boards met strict criteria. A design guide for letting boards was introduced to help landlords comply with the restrictions while displaying boards on their properties. Letting boards that followed the design guidelines were exempt from enforcement action.

Since the restrictions ended in 2023 the number of ‘To Let’ boards has noticeably increased. In response to ongoing concerns the City Council is consulting on proposals to reintroduce these controls. The consultation runs until the 20 May 2025

Below is an overview map of the 9 areas within Hyson Green & Arboretum, Lenton & Wollaton East and Radford that are proposed to be subject to letting board restrictions

You are invited to have your say on:

  • Whether you support reintroducing the letting board restrictions
  • The content of the accompanying draft guidance,
  • How long the restriction should be in place
