What is Commissioning

Commissioning is the process for deciding how to achieve effective outcomes for and with people and communities through the most efficient models with the most economical resource (Council / partnership and community resources) in a sustainable way.

Commissioning services for vulnerable adults, children, young people, and families is carried out by the Commissioning and Partnerships Directory within Peoples Services at the City Council in accordance with the Commissioning Handbook and the Commissioning Cycle. Services are commissioned and procured for delivery by the Voluntary, Community and Private sectors.

We aim to ensure a vibrant, person-centred provider market to support the wide-ranging social care needs of Nottingham’s citizens now and in the future.

This means ensuring a variety of support options from good quality providers who aim to empower the people they work with, putting the individual in control of their own support.

We aim to ensure that citizens have options whether they are receiving a service directly commissioned by the council, using a direct payment or funding their own care and support.

Commissioning Intentions

Each year our Commissioning plans are agreed by Nottingham City Council’s Commissioning and Procurement Executive Committee, and these will be published shortly.

  • Click here to download the Adults Market Position Statement – and the Children’s Sufficiency Strategy (updated version available Autumn 2023) which sets out what our market currently looks like and what we think we need to be doing to ensure a sustainable market going forward. Our commissioning plans will be based on the information in this document and the contracts we currently have which may need reviewing.
  •  Our current contract list can be found in the Nottingham Data Hub

Engagement

We believe that in order to get the right services to support the citizens of Nottingham, we need to work in partnership with both providers and citizens.

We are working on draft engagement strategies and will be developing these in partnership with providers and citizens.

Nottingham City Council’s current commissioning opportunities are available within the ‘Provider Corner’ on the ASKLiON website.
