Your Allotment and Coronavirus
We also request that you do not travel by car to your allotment, where possible make your journey to the allotment part of your once a day exercise, permitted by the Government.
We recommend you:
- Keep hand sanitiser in your shed and wash your hands regularly
- Use hand sanitiser before opening and closing any gate locks
- DO NOT gather together for a chat even if you are 2 metres apart
- Observe “Social Distancing” with each other 2-3 metres
- If you take your children to the plot, ensure that they stay within its confines and do not run around on communal paths and spaces.
- Do not share tools
- Minimise the contact with each other for example no handshakes
- Do not wash your hands in water troughs
- We recommend that all communal facilities are closed
If you are self-isolating at home for up to 12 weeks and can’t access your allotment please contact the Allotment Office so that we can take that into consideration when carrying out our plots inspections, which will continue at this current time.
Waiting List
We currently have a high demand for allotments in the City and there is a waiting list, which is operated on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in renting an allotment we can put you on the waiting list, and we will contact you as soon we have plots available.
If you would like to be added to our waiting list please take a look through our Allotment Information Pack (PDF) and complete the online allotment application form above.
Cost
The cost of a plot will be 38 pence per square metre, per year. If the site has access to water then this will be an extra charge and calculated dependent on the site’s usage in the previous year. For example, a 250 sq metre plot will cost £95.00 per year plus the water charge if applicable.
Giving up Your Allotment
If you want to give up your allotment, contact the Allotment Team who, after receipt of your written application to terminate your tenancy, will inspect your plot to indicate if anything needs doing.
If you become ill and cannot look after your allotment, contact the Allotment Officer to discuss ways of managing your allotment until you can garden again.
