Grayson is 21 months old. He attended the Drop In at Southglade Family Hub with his Mum and Dad.

They report that he is using around 50 single words but hasn’t started to put 2 words together.

They are not concerned about his play, interactions or understanding.

Parents are keen to learn more about how they can help Grayson and have asked if there is any training they can attend.

The SLT Service create a pathway which includes

  1. key strategies for them to be using at home,
  2. National Literacy Trust resources, and
  3. signposting to the free Chatter Matters webinars offered by Speech and Language UK.

This is emailed to parents after the Drop In

Example Pathway

Sophie is a Language Lead at a PVI setting. A child is about to start the setting who is using a small number of signs. Sophie identifies that there are a few members of staff who are not confident using signs. Sophie also wants to make sure that they are using the right strategies to support the child’s interaction. She creates a pathway to find out what strategies her team should be prioritising and to find out what training is available for the staff in her setting. She shares the information at their weekly team meeting and emails all staff a copy of the pathway.
