Hot Weather Alert!
Published: Tuesday, 3 June 2025
As unpredictable as the UK weather can be, the 1st June marked the start of the summer season where we can expect periods of hotter weather.
Colleagues in the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have asked us to raise awareness of their heat-health alerts.
Very hot weather affects our health and those particularly vulnerable include:
- Those aged over 65 years old
- Those aged less than 5 years old
- People with health conditions (cardiac, respiratory, dementia, diabetes, kidney disease, Parkinson’s disease, mobility problems, mental health conditions)
- Pregnant women
- People who experience alcohol or drug dependence
- People who live alone and may be unable to care for themselves
- People who are physically active and spend a lot of time outside
- People who work in jobs that require manual labour or extensive time outside
- People experiencing homelessness, including rough sleepers
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) will issue heat-health alerts during periods of very hot weather where there is a risk to health.
When a heat-health alert is issued, we will also provide additional information and guidance, including reminders of who is most at risk, quick links to relevant guidance and other locally relevant information.
