Introduction to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Course Length: 2 hours 

Course Leaders: EYFS SEND Workers Sam Caig and Mel Foulston

Audience: All Practitioners working with children who do not currently have a SENCO Role, but would like to increase their knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Course Overview: This course will explore the roles and responsibilities of those working with children with SEND, look how we can support each other, parents and work with other agencies to ensure a joint approach to supporting children’s needs and explore practical ideas to promote equality and inclusion.

Aims:

· To understand what Special Education Needs and Disabilities are and what our responsibilities are under the SEND Code of Practice

· To explore how we can work with parents, SENCO’s and other professionals to support children with SEND

· To extend our knowledge and understanding of Autism, Sensory impairments, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy and gain practical ideas to support children's learning and development
