Children's Library Services

From tots to teens, your local library has something to offer all children and young people. We've got books to read, enjoy and learn from and activities like author visits and loads of fun school holiday events

Children can have their own library card from the day they are born, it's free to join and to borrow books and you can't start too soon! Studies have shown that just 10 minutes reading a day can dramatically improve your child's lifelong language, literacy and numeracy skills.

Reading, Learning and Activities for Children of All Ages

All City Libraries have a wide range of children's books available to borrow and enjoy, they can all be reserved and renewed online. Each library also has a children's area full of inspiration for young readers plus toys and activities for families to share and enjoy.

For older children there are teen areas in most libraries and young people have helped to choose books for their age groups. Our collection of Manga is very popular.

We also run library events and services just for children and young people:

Reviews from the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Run

“With clever design, exemplary storytelling, and raucous energy, Three is a step above most family entertainment. The trio of performers is a joy to watch, and their performances and musicality mark them out as an ensemble with real talent. With such talent on display, Three really is the perfect start to a day at the Edinburgh Fringe”. (Review Hub).
