200 Million Minutes Reading Challenge
We are very excited to announce that we have just signed up for the 200 Million Minutes Reading Challenge – a global reading initiative from education charity Achievement for All that launches on World Book Day 2020 (Tuesday 5th March).
Together with early years settings, schools, colleges, parents, carers, libraries, businesses and community groups from around the world, children and young people will try to read for a collective 200 million minutes.
Why? We know that introducing all children and young people to the habit of reading in everyday life can improve communications skills and brighten future prospects, unlocking new worlds and possibilities. 10 minutes of reading a day can make a huge impact to a child’s development, so imagine what 200 million minutes could achieve!
You can help us to reach our personal target of contributing 20,000 hours by registering the minutes you read in the library with the staff in each of our libraries, and we can log them for you. Alternatively, you can register at 200millionminutes.org and log your own reading. The website is also full of free fun activities and resources to try at home together.
For more information, or to find out how to get involved, visit 200MillionMinutes.org or follow @AfA_Education on Facebook and Twitter. The challenge will run until Thursday 2nd April 2020 (Children’s Book Day).
