After successfully creating better libraries in neighbourhoods such as the Dales, Strelley, Hyson Green, St Ann’s and Bulwell, the council has committed to a new Central Library for Nottingham. This includes the best Children’s Library in the country following a public consultation. 85% of respondents said they wanted a new Central Library in the Broadmarsh area.

The new Central Library will be at the heart of the revitalised Broadmarsh area, this includes:

  • The new Broadmarsh Car Park and Bus Station,
  • New retail units
  • Nottingham College City Hub
  • Nottingham Castle
  • New public spaces surrounding the area
  • Nottingham Castle
  • The recent heritage restorations on Carrington Street.

A new Central Library will help surrounding streets, close to the train station, tram and bus services, new parking facilities and improved cycle and pedestrian links.

As the council works with the Broadmarsh Advisory Group to formalise a new plan for the former Broadmarsh Shopping centre, the new Central Library, bookended by the City of Caves and Nottingham Castle, will help establish a historical and cultural feel for this part of the city.

Internationally acclaimed architects with a background in library design will design the interior of Central Library. We aim to help support the vision of a high-quality library to support the city’s young people now and in the future.
