Helping to prevent injuries
The Preventative Adaptations for Older People's Homes scheme is a completely free service for all people aged 60 and over living in the Nottingham City Council area.
The PAD (Preventative Adaptations) scheme aims to:
- Increase safety in the home for older people
- Reduce falls
- Facilitate timely discharge from hospital
All costs for the PAD Scheme adaptations are met by Nottingham City Council using funds allocated jointly by NHS Nottingham City.
The PAD scheme offers a comprehensive range of minor adaptations to reduce the risk of falls and to increase your safety in your home.
Following a risk assessment of your home, adaptations may include:
- Grab rails by the bath or entrance doors
- An additional stair rail
- Raising an armchair
- Replacing a high step to front or rear entrance door with shallow steps
- A Home Safety Check and fitting of smoke alarms carried out by Nottingham Fire & Rescue
- Threshold strips
To be eligible for adaptations from the PAD Scheme you must be aged 60 or over and be permanently resident within the Nottingham City Council boundaries.
You can be a Nottingham City Council tenant, a homeowner or be in private rented accommodation.
If you are in private rented accommodation we will need permission from your landlord before some of the adaptations can be done.
