Home Information for Residents Education and Schools School Admissions Apply for a place in Year 7 at a secondary school

Coronavirus Update | Please be aware that due COVID-19, the School Admissions Team are currently working remotely and so have limited resources. We are working to the best of our abilities to continuously provide a good level of service, however we have a reduced telephone service, operating from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm Monday to Wednesday only. Our reception service will not be available for the foreseeable future. We would appreciate your patience and understanding during this time, and we recognise that our service is of high importance to you. We are also contactable via email and if your email requires a response, we will reply as soon as we can.

If your child lives in Nottingham city and your child was born between 1st September 2009 and 31st August 2010, they are due to transfer to secondary school in September 2021 and you will need to apply for a secondary school place.

If your child was not born between these dates and you wish to apply for a secondary school place, you should use the online form on the New to the Area or Wishing to Change Schools' page.

National Offer Day

Applications Received Before 31 October 2020.

The national offer day for secondary school applications is 1 March 2021.

If you applied online, you will receive an email on 1 March notifying you of the outcome of your application (unless you indicated on your application you do not want to receive the decision by email). A decision letter will also be posted to applicants who applied using a paper application form, on Monday, 1 March 2021, by second class post. Letters should be received by 3 or 4 March.

Please do not telephone the School Admissions Team for your decision as these will not be given verbally, regardless of the circumstances; you must wait for your email or letter to arrive. We will only reprint decision letters not received by Monday 8 March 2021, so if you have not received your letter do not contact us for another copy until after 8 March.

Our telephones are extremely busy after national offer day, so please be patient if you are trying to contact us.

You will be able to accept your offer by:

Please do not use more than one of these options as it is unnecessary and reduces the time our staff are available to provide help to parents and carers.

Applications Received After 31 October 2020

If you apply after the closing date of 31 October 2021, you will receive a decision on your application from May 2021 onwards. We will not be able to make a decision on your application prior to this date.

Going to School in Nottingham

Make sure you read our Going to School in Nottingham booklet to gather as much information as possible about the application process. Appendix 1 gives you the admission criteria for all secondary schools in Nottingham City.

A new secondary Bluecoat Free School is due to open in September 2021

As this new school will not be part of the coordinated first admission to secondary school scheme, parents/carers will need to apply directly to the school.  More details can be found here https://www.bluecoattrent.co.uk/ including how to apply and contact the school directly.
