Changes to services due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

From 1st April 2020 registrations for deaths will move to a telephone basis. Your doctor or hospital will send the medical certificate to the registration service electronically, and we will contact you to make a telephone appointment, complete the registration and issue the green form for burial or cremation electronically. We will also supply you with a Tell Us Once reference number to enable you to access this service.  After the registration is completed you will be advised to apply for Death certificates using our online ordering service and these will be posted to you.

We are currently unable to register births due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. The requirement to register within 42 days has now been lifted. There are currently special provisions in place so that you can put in a claim for child benefit and any tax credits without registering the birth.  Please visit gov.uk  for further information

Notices of marriage are no longer being taken at this time.

We are contacting all couples with ceremonies until the end of April confirming that their wedding will need to be postponed.  Our advice to customers with ceremony bookings after this date is that we cannot predict when this situation will improve and therefore please keep watching the news and the Prime Minsters announcements.  We are sorry we cannot be more specific.  If you wish to postpone your ceremony to a later date we are suggesting moving to after 1st September but that would only be provisional depending on the lifting of the sanctions.

Citizenship ceremonies will no longer be taking place at this time.  Customers would normally be expected to book their citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to the current pandemic circumstances UKVI have extended this period to six months and will keep this under constant review. Customers should be advised that no adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by Coronavirus.

These changes will remain in place until Government restrictions are lifted.

Update 11th May 2020
The government has now published its latest guidance on coronavirus recovery. It includes examining how to enable slightly larger groups to gather for events such as small weddings during stage 2, which will not be before 1 June 2020 and only if the correct conditions are met. No further details are available as yet.
