Birth Registrations are continuing during this National Lockdown and travel to and from your appointment is considered as an essential journey. You may book an appointment online or over the phone to register your baby- although we have doubled the number of appointments offered, there is still a considerable wait for a slot while we work through the backlog so please bear with us. These will take place by prior appointment only at Loxley House, Station Street and you will be sent new guidelines to follow which include wearing of face coverings and bringing your own black pen to sign. The legal requirement to register your baby within 42 days is temporarily suspended. Please bring a bank card to pay for your certificates- we do not accept cash and currently cannot take payment using a mobile phone or Apple Pay. Please also note that unmarried fathers must not attend the Registration alone- if you are not married to each other the baby’s mother must also be in attendance.
Whilst we are in a National Lockdown Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies should only take place in exceptional circumstances e.g. where one party is seriously ill and not expected to recover. If you have a wedding or Civil Partnership booked before 22nd February 2021 you will be contacted by the Register Office outlining your options. For further information please refer to GOV.UK. We are able to take new bookings for 2021 although at this time we do not know if or when ceremonies will return to as they were pre-COVID.
Notices of Marriage or Civil Partnership
Notice appointments are continuing during this National Lockdown, and travel to and from your appointment is considered as an essential journey. We are booking notice appointments for couples who have their ceremonies booked within the next 4 months only. If your ceremony is in 2021 we request that you contact us around 2-3 months before your wedding date to book an appointment- payment is taken in advance. The appointment will be at Loxley House and there will be guidelines to follow such as wearing face coverings.
Death and Still Birth Registrations
On 1st April 2020 registrations for deaths and stillbirths moved to a telephone basis and this process continues during Tiers or Lockdown restrictions. Your doctor or hospital will send the medical certificate electronically to the registration service, and we will contact you to make a telephone appointment, complete the registration and issue the green form for burial or cremation electronically. We will also supply you with a 'Tell Us Once' reference number to enable you to access this service. After the registration is completed you will be advised how to apply for Death certificates using our online ordering service and these will be posted to you.
If you have received a notification letter from the Home office, we will contact you to arrange a ceremony as soon as possible- please bear with us as we have a large number of successful applicants’ details coming through from the Home Office at this current time. Please wait to be contacted by the Register Office- there can be a few weeks delay before the certificate arrives with the Registrars from the Home Office. During Lockdown your ceremony can still take place at The Council House but unfortunately at this time, we cannot accommodate guests at the ceremony.
