High Street Small Business Grants

High streets and city and town centres lie at the heart of communities and local economies, creating jobs, nurturing small businesses and injecting millions of pounds into Nottingham’s economy.

Nottingham City Council is committed to supporting the city’s High Streets. We are targeting a portion of our UKSPF allocation to support out retail centres, aiming to promote thriving places.

We have established a small grants scheme to support and sustain existing businesses on the High Street, particularly retail businesses and those in the hospitality and leisure sectors.

The High Street Small Business Grants scheme will provide funding to eligible small businesses to deliver a range of interventions to support High Streets in Nottingham city centre and in local neighbourhoods. Interventions include marketing and events, equipment purchases including digital and ICT, support for shop premises including energy efficiency measures, shop front improvements and greening in line with our City Centre Strategy and Action Plan.

The grant programme aims to:

  • Support and sustain existing businesses on the High Street
  • Improve the appearance of existing premises on the High Street
  • Bring vacant properties back into use
  • Encourage businesses to participate in improving the High Street

Available funding

The High Street Small Grants Scheme has a total grant pot of £249,000 to be distributed between November 2022 and March 2023, subject to funding. A further, expanded programme of small grants for businesses will be available from April 2023.

Eligibility

The High Street Small Grants Scheme is open to small, independent High Street businesses located in designated areas of Nottingham. You must have fewer than 50 employees and a turnover less than £10m. Please refer to the applicant guidance for full details of the eligibility requirements.

How to apply

Please read the Nottingham UKSPF High Street Small Business Grants Applicant Guidance for details of the grant, amounts available and eligibility requirements.

Complete and return a copy of the High Street Small Business Grants Application Form and the required supporting documents to UKSPFgrants@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

Application deadline

This is a rolling grant programme and therefore does not have a deadline for applications.  Grant applications will be considered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis until the grant pot has been fully allocated.

Although we have launched the grant scheme, the awarding of grants is dependent on confirmation that Nottingham City Council’s UKSPF Investment Plan has been approved by UK Government. We are anticipating that we will receive a response from Government before the end of 2022.
