Fire Safety in the Workplace

Employer responsibility

In England and Wales, if you're an employer, owner, landlord or occupier of business or other non-domestic premises, you're responsible for fire safety and are known as the 'responsible person'.

There are certain things you must do by law under the Fire Safety Order, which is enforced by your local fire and rescue service.

In the majority of premises, local fire and rescue authorities are responsible for enforcing fire safety legislation. If you require advice or want to make a complaint about fire safety within your premises it is the Fire Authorities who are best to deal with your enquiry.
