A Care Alarm and any peripheral device linked to it is free, however there is a cost for the call centre to respond. We have two call centres and their pricing information is below.
The Telecare Service uses call centres to assist with the monitoring and response from a Care Alarm. A call centre is involved where a user has Telecare equipment which needs an alert transmitting out of the home in order for the most appropriate response to be provided.
This response could be advising family members or neighbours (named contacts) of a situation which needs dealing with or even alert the emergency services to attend e.g. the Fire Service in case of a fire or the Ambulance Service in the case of a suspected fall.
Nottingham On Call
Nottingham on Call (Nottingham City Homes) provide a 24/7 alert monitoring service as well as providing their own response service. The Mobile Support Officers (MSOs) can attend a property following an alert in certain circumstances where the named contact cannot be reached.
Although the service provided by Nottingham on Call is to predominantly older people they provide a service to people of all ages and disabilities.
The current charge for receiving a service from Nottingham on Call is £3.95 per week which includes the monitoring and response service. Nottingham on Call currently monitor over 11,000 alarms within Nottingham City.
SMaRT Support Management and Response Team
SMaRT (Support Management and Response Team) is the call monitoring centre for Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) with approximately 2000 alarms connected to it. It currently monitors alarms for NCHA properties as well as some private homes. This includes some citizens with a Telecare package.
SMaRT provide a 24/7 alert monitoring service as well as providing their own response service. This response service can attend a property following an alert in certain circumstances where the named contacts cannot be reached or where a response visit is more appropriate. SMaRT provide a service to a range of citizens although have a great deal of experience of working with users with learning disabilities or mental health problems.
SMaRT offer several levels of service with different costs. These are:-
Option 1 - Emergency, emotional and reassurance calls, plus responsive visits - £4.75 per week monitoring charge and £16.72 per responsive visit.
Option 2 - Emergency and reassurance calls, plus responsive visits - £2.88 per week monitoring charge and £16.72 for the first 5 response visits then £50 per response visit.
Option 3 - Emergency and next of kin calls, no responsive visits - £2.55 per week.
Option 4 - Daily wellbeing telephone calls - £0.55p per day.
SMaRT are able to provide a flexible service which could involve a mix of options over different times. For example option 3 for a period of time when the next of kin will always be available and option 2 when the next of kin will be away or needs a break.
