Corporate Director for People

Exciting Opportunity at Nottingham City Council

Corporate Director for People

Salary: up to £148,583

Could you lead a Directorate that delivers high-quality services for all its children, adults and young people?

Nottingham is a great city to live and work for many reasons…  We are an innovative, vibrant and fast growing Core City, with a new era of regeneration in the City. We have one of the best public transport networks in the country with an extended tram system and exceptional rail links.  We have flourishing art, events and music scene, a great and developing shopping offer, fantastic sports facilities and tantalisingly great restaurants and buzzing night-time scene.

In contrast, Nottingham is not without its challenges, sadly we are the 12th most deprived area in England. Our children live in families that are the fourth most deprived in England. This presents significant issues for our citizens and keeping children and adults safe and improving their life chances is critical to our success.

Our vision is a City where every one of our citizens can enjoy life in a safe environment, free from harm; a city where all can achieve their full potential. We genuinely have our citizens at the heart of all we do.

The role

We are looking for a strong motivated senior leader, with a credible track record of achievement in a large organisation. You will continue to drive forward our People Directorate, providing confident leadership and clear direction. In addition to a wider corporate strategic role for all citizens, you will be accountable for the statutory requirements of the Director of Children’s Services, Director of Adult Social Services and Director of Public Health.  We want someone who is dynamic, enthusiastic, passionate and visionary; someone who demands commitment and results but can lead, inspire and motivate people with respect and empathy.  As well as being a specialist in your field, you will make a significant contribution to the shaping of the Council’s overall vision and priorities.

You will need a detailed understanding of complex statutory and legal requirements, strategic budget management, and experience of embedding transformational and cultural change to improve performance and to meet financial and demographic demands.  You will have significant experience of successful collaborative work with professional bodies, agencies, and partners and the ability to work in a political environment and engender confidence with a wide range of stakeholders, which is critical to this role.

There has never been a better time to join Nottingham City Council.  We have a new and ambitious political leadership.  We are known for our inclusivity and innovation, as we strive to deliver on key equality objectives.  We reward our employees with our award-winning range of Employee Benefits, and we are a leading employer of Apprentices.  We are continually committed to delivering high-quality services for Nottingham’s citizens, visitors and investors. If successful, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and be a member of a strong Corporate Leadership Team, with an ethos for continuous improvement.

If this sounds like the opportunity you have been looking for, we are excited to hear from you.

We particularly welcome applicants from the Black and Minority Ethnic communities as they are currently under-represented at senior levels in the organisation.
