Turner and Bonington on the Shores of the Channel
15 November till 15 February 2012
An exhibition providing a rare opportunity to see the work o JM Turner, shown here alongside Nottingham’s own ’star’ of 19th century landscape painting, RP Bonington. Coasting reveals how, through their shared interest in the channel coasts of England and France in the early decades of the 19th century, both artists drew on and transformed the traditions of landscape and marine painting in Britain, France and Holland. At the heart was mastery of colour and of sparkling atmospherics, displayed in the natural amphitheatre of sea, sky and beach.
