What is Telecare?
Telecare is a new service designed to enable older people and others remain living independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
The telecare service consists of four main elements:
- a pendant alarm and sensors that generate an alert when there is problem
- a care alarm that receives the alert and automatically dials for help
- a response centre that receives the call
- an appropriate response to help assist with the problem
Using the pendant alarm, which you can attach to yourself or your clothing, you can summon help from anywhere in your home.
There is also a range of different telecare sensors to meet different needs. For example, sensors can detect things like:
- fires and smoke
- extremes of heat
- carbon monoxide and natural gas
- flooding
- bogus callers
Telecare sensors can also monitor other situations in the home, such as if you:
- have stopped moving
- have had a fall
- have gone outside
- are in bed or sitting in a chair.
With these sensors, Telecare is set up to alert a call monitoring centre if there is a problem in your home so they can take action. The call centre can provide a response when no one else is available.
The telecare service provides peace of mind for users and their carers and is able to provide assistance whenever required 24 hours a day.
