HRH Princess Anne officially opens the square
Princess Anne came to Nottingham to give the square the royal seal of approval, echoing the Prince of Wales' visit in May 1929 to mark the opening of the Council House and earlier square design.

Nottingham's new square opening spectacular
The city's world famous outlaw, Robin Hood and his good lady Maid Marian flew across the square - the largest city square in the UK - and fired an arrow to launch a fantastic pyrotechnic display from the historic Council House.

1000 school children, from infants to sixth formers, and more than 200 musicians took part in a themed event to celebrate the Square's two famous lions.
