COLWICK COUNTRY PARKQUICK LINKS
Colwick Country Park is a large and diverse area of water, woodland and meadows providing a perfect backdrop for a variety of both wildlife and recreational activities. Formed originally from gravel workings with grassland and water course, Colwick Country Park offers fishing, water sports and many other leisure facilities. Cycling and horse-riding are particularly popular as the majority of paths in the area have been dedicated as a Public Bridleway whilst an excellent adventure centre keeps younger audiences entertained. The park also has a rich diversity of wildlife from butterflies and dragonflies to a large number of birds that visit the park, especially at migration time. This includes the nationally important population of wildfowl that are present in the wintertime. Nestling within the sixty acres of parkland sits a magnificent Palladian style Georgian country house mansion which is currently being leased out and used as a prestigious hotel and function venue Colwick Hall Hotel. ![]() ![]() Park HistoryColwick Country Park, the house and parkland can be traced back to before 1362 where the ownership of the hall had passed through a number of families including the infamous Byrons and Munsters. The current house dates from the late 18th century although there have been various modifications to the building and the design over the years. The current size of the park is far smaller than its original magnitude; this is due the development of the area, railway and road links. The larger fishing lakes have been created largely as a result of mineral extraction during the 20th century. Return to top of the page
