Bulwell Hall Park offers visitors the opportunity to "experience the countryside" within an inner city urban area. Covering approximately five hectares, Bulwell Hall Park skilfully combines significant wildlife with a host of recreational facilities. The park's ancient woodlands, nationally rare grasslands and fauna sit comfortably alongside an 18 hole golf course, cricket pitch, fishing lakes and a pavilion which continues to attract many visitors all year round.

Site History

Bulwell Hall Park, like many today, originated as the garden of a manor house. Records show that the first known hall was built in the area in 1540 on land known as Bulwell Wood. However it was not until 1770 that landowner John Newton built the grand Mansion House, known as the Pye Wipe Hall, set in its own large grounds to the North of Bulwell town centre. After passing through the hands of Newton's ancestors for a time, Bulwell Hall was sold at auction in 1864 along with over *1000 acres of land of which is now Bulwell and Hucknall. Over the years Bulwell Hall was later used as a sanatorium, an 'approved school for boys', by the armed forces, and was an Italian Prisoner of War camp before eventually being demolished in 1958.
