Vacant Shops Grant Scheme
Bring your retail property back to life
The Vacant Shops Grant Scheme is now open for applications. If you are a long-term leaseholder or a landlord with vacant retail premises in the city centre, you can benefit from a grant to help you improve the function and appearance of your shop to bring it back into use and attract new tenants.
Grants are now available on a first-come-first-served basis to eligible applicants in order to improve the retail landscape of our city. Your grant could be used for improvements to the shop frontage, access or interior, such as:
- Changes to the layout
- New fixtures and fittings
- Works to sub-divide or enlarge units
- Removal of old signage or security shutters
- Installation of new fascias or shop fronts
- Improving disabled access
- New lighting
- Planning and building regulation fees for external building works
Grants are available for a minimum of £500 up to £5,000 or 50% of the total project cost - whichever is the lesser. Successful applicants to the scheme will be asked to submit a full proposal for funding and are required to match-fund the works by a minimum of 50%.
The Information for Property Owners [261kb] document outlines the grant details and should be read in detail by interested parties. To register an interest in the grant scheme and check your eligibility, please complete the Expression of Interest Form [1Mb] and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
At the moment the grant is only available for properties located on eligible city centre streets listed in the Information for Property Owners document.
