Big Spring Clean 2008
Let's 'Spring Clean' all year round!
During this year's 23-day Big Spring Clean, schoolchildren, businesses, community groups, residents and students gave their time and energy to organise activities across the city resulting in tons of rubbish being removed from the city's streets and open spaces.
In all: 50 areas nominated by the public were cleaned up; flytipping was cleared from 858 places; graffiti was cleared from 333 sites; 42 neighbourhood clean ups were carried out and all this was achieved by over 30 community groups and 17 school, youth and play groups working with council staff. One of the more unusual clear ups was when pupils from city schools cleared 40 bags of rubbish from the canal by canoe!
Players from Notts County FC also joined in by cleaning graffiti from walls nearby the Meadow Lane ground to hel launch a new graffiti-busting booklet.
Now this year's Big Spring Clean may have come to an end, but we still want everyone to help ensure that the city is kept as clean and tidy as possible. Therefore, if you have any ideas that could help make Nottingham cleaner and greener the Big Spring Clean team would like to hear about them. Please ring us on 915 2000 or email bigspringclean@nottinghamcity.gov.uk
