Nottingham Urban Walks Project

Communities for Health (Get Moving Nottingham) has been gathering information on urban walks around the Nottingham City Centre and surrounding areas.

Based on the large number of guided and independent walks that exist around the City, the aim of this project is to collate information into user-friendly, web and printed resources that are accessible to all sectors of the diverse population of Nottingham.

These resources will include the following…

Urban Walks Directory

A walks directory has been produced which details the following information on independent and guided walks around Nottingham

  • Location of walk
  • Whether it is a guided or self-led walk
  • The lead organisation/contact details
  • Distance
  • Availability of a map for the walk
  • Grading of the walk
  • Duration of walk
  • For guided walks, details of day/ time/ meeting place
  • Who the walk is suitable for
  • Transport links

The full, up-to-date walks directory plus information on the many benefits of walking, downloadable walk packs, maps and further walking information will be able to be accessed at www.getmovingnottingham.nhs.uk very soon.

Urban Walks Packs

Urban Walks Packs are being developed that give details of self-led walks.   There will be 3 walk packs in total; City Centre (lunchtime/ workplace walking), North Nottingham (covering areas 1-5) and South Nottingham (covering areas 6-9).  Each pack will contain the following

  • A walk pack wallet displaying a map (on the inside cover) of the whole area, identifying the location of each of the walks in the pack.
  • Information on the benefits of walking with a motivational step counter diary
  • Walk cards, each providing a simple map of the walk on one side and details such as landmarks, distance, grading, suitability, transport links etc on the other.
