- Nottingham has a population of 274,000 with 45% of this population without access to a car. 23% of the population owns a bike however only 3.1% of these people use their bike to cycle to work. There is therefore real potential to increase the levels of cycling in Nottingham.
- Cycling is often the fastest way of getting around in built up areas. It is also a healthy and cheap way of getting around Nottingham and enjoying yourself.
- Nottingham City Council is committed to improving conditions for cycling by improving infrastructure (including cycle parking), making cycling safer, marketing and promoting cycling (through the two cycle maps), and stakeholder engagement with organisations such as ‘Pedals’.
