City Data

This page contains Information for Nottingham City as a whole.

Please note that the Census figures by age and sex should not be used as reliable population estimates for 2001, as a considerable number of people were missed by the Census, particularly younger men.  They are, therefore, not comparable with the Office for National Statistics Mid-Year Estimates of Population (which can be found on the population page).  The Mid-Year Estimates make some allowance for the Census undercount and they are updated every year.

The Census is the only source for most topics other than age and sex.  Because of the problems with the population count it is often best to use percentage rates (e.g. the percentage of people in each ethnic group) rather than the absolute numbers.

Commentary on the 2001 Census Key Statistics for Nottingham City PDF

* The Nottingham City boundaries exclude a number of suburbs.  For a more complete picture of the conurbation we recommend using the Greater Nottingham profile.  In this context, Greater Nottingham is defined as being the Greater Nottingham Partnership area (i.e. Nottingham City, the Boroughs of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe, and the Hucknall part of Ashfield District).
