Statistical Information about Greater Nottingham and Nottingham City

Which geographic area is best for me - Greater Nottingham or Nottingham City?

We always recommend using Greater Nottingham figures if you want to know about the local population that may use your business or service, or if you need to make comparisons with other cities.

Greater Nottingham comprises the City of Nottingham and the immediately surrounding districts of Broxtowe, Gedling, Rushcliffe and the Hucknall area of the district of Ashfield.  It is overwhelmingly urban.  Only 43% of its population lives within the City of Nottingham.

We only recommend using City figures if you provide a service solely within this administrative boundary and need information on your client base, for example if you work for Nottingham City Council or Nottingham Primary Care Trust.  This is because the City boundary is drawn very tightly and excludes the rest of the suburbs.

The maps below will help you to decide which area is of most relevance to you.
