Parents Guide

1 General Information

  • It is important that parents/guardians arrive promptly to collect children at the end of sessions.
  • Children with a disability or special needs are required to book courses at least 2 weeks in advance of the course starting. This will help the Sports Development Officers to provide additional support that an individual may need.
  • Parents must fill in and sign consent and medical forms before activities start, otherwise children will not be able to take part.

2 Coaching Zone

  • All of our courses are led by governing body-qualified coaches who have been Criminal Record Bureau checked and have received Child Protection Awareness and procedures training.
  • Wear suitable clothing and footwear for the sport you are participating in.
  • Bring waterproof clothing in case of rain.
  • Bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink each day.
  • Places are strictly limited so we suggest you book all coaching courses at least 24 hours in advance. However a limited number of places may be available on the day.

3 Active Zone

  • Lunchtimes will be supervised at all centres (except Ken Martin and Portland) for children aged 8 - 15 attending both morning and afternoon activities.
  • Catering is available at selected sites. For full details contact the venue directly. Where these facilities do not exist, please remember to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
  • Please ensure you bring appropriate clothing for all outdoor sessions.
  • All children will be expected to take part in all activities advertised.
  • Children must register 15 minutes before the start of each session.

8-15 year olds

  • Must be able to swim 25m for all pool sessions.
  • Must be able to swim 75m for all canoeing sessions.

5-7 year olds

  • Parents or guardians must remain in the building during the sessions - why not do a workout or use our gym?
  • Please bring an old t-shirt or top for any of the art and craft sessions - aprons are not provided.
  • Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children are changed before and after swimming lessons.
  • No supervisional childcare is provided between sessions for under 8’s.
  • Please make sure children are wearing appropriate clothing for the activities - socks must be worn for trampolining, trainers for multi-sport activities, and swim kit for all Splash activities.
  • For all pool sessions an adult aged 16+ must accompany their child in the water at all times.

4 Child Behavioural Policy

  • Respect must be given to other children, customers and staff on the Zone programme.
  • Children must adhere to instructions from the Sports Leaders, Coaches and Health Professionals at all times.
  • If a child misbehaves they will be spoken to, and staff will try to resolve any issues. If the behaviour or problem persists, the child’s parent/guardian will be informed. Further incidents may result in exclusion from future sessions and no refunds will be available.
