This summer Nottingham City Council's outdoor theatre season returns with another exceptional programme of performances at Nottingham Castle. These evenings of outstanding theatre will be performed in beautiful surroundings. From the enchanting family show Peter Pan, to the Shakespearean comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream there were plays to suit all ages and tastes

Nottingham Castle's Outdoor Theatre Programme

Set within a beautiful Victorian inspired park that provides stunning views of the city and beyond, Nottingham Castle is a fantastic location for enjoying outdoor theatre. Its 17th century mansion on the site of the original medieval castle, will act as your historic backdrop for the evening's entertainment. With over 1000 years of history, this vibrant museum in the heart of the city invited you to come along to experience theatre in the great outdoors - whether you want to see Shakespeare, a comedy or an adventure all the family can enjoy.

This years shows will performed by Heartbreak Productions, with the exception of Much Ado About Nothing which will be performed by Oddsock Productions.

Oddsock Productions - Nationally acclaimed local theatre company Oddsocks Productions will be returning to the Castle in their unique inimitable style. Much Ado About Nothing - Thursday 24 - Friday 25 July, 7.30pm

Oddsocks Productions present Shakespeare's celebration of love, intrigue and smouldering desires. This entertaining, family friendly performance will take place on the company's Elizabethan 'passion wagon'!

Event Information- Please note that the Castle gates will open 1 hour before each performance. Please bring your own picnic, blankets or low back chairs as no seating or shelter is provided. Shows will only be cancelled if it is considered too dangerous to continue, not because of bad weather. Refreshments will be available from Castle Rock Brewery onsite.

Disabled Access - Disabled access and toilets are available. Disabled parking is limited and must be booked in advance by calling 0115 915 3700.

Event Information - Please note that no seating is provided, so please bring rugs or low backed chairs. Please note that no bbqs are permitted on site. Bring waterproof clothing in case of rain or sun block, hat and drinking water if the weather is too hot. Shows will only be cancelled if it considered too dangerous to continue, not because of bad weather. Only in the event of a show being cancelled with a refund be made. Ticket holders will be admitted to the Abbey grounds 1 hour before the performance starts.

Disabled Access - Parking for blue badge holders is available directly outside the building's south west wing. Toilets accessible to wheelchair users are available in the grounds. Please contact the administration office at Newstead Abbey on 01623 455 900 if you would like further information on wheelchair access or have specific needs. There is a free tickets available for carers.

Newstead Abbey Summer Stage Programme

The ancestral home of the famous poet Lord Byron, Newstead Abbey provides an incredibly romantic setting for an outstanding evening of summer entertainment. Set in a beautiful landscape of over 300 acres including lakes, ponds and waterfalls, you'd find it difficult to discover a more stunning location in which to enjoy outdoor theatre.

This years shows will be performed by Illyria, with the exception of Much Ado About Nothing which will be performed by The Lord Chamberlains Men.

The Lord Chamberlain's Men perform this Shakespearean romantic comedy as it was written to be: by an all male acting troupe.

Shakespeare at his most boisterous and farcical! International award winning Illyria perform this comedy that sees Falstaff, the bawdy Knight, fall in love not once, but TWICE - at the same time, with two women who are actually best friends.
