Local democracy: How your Library can help
Visit or contact your local Nottingham City library for information about voting and the democratic process.
All libraries have access to information about:
YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL & COUNCILLORS
We can give you details of your local councillors – who they are and how to contact them. Some councillors hold surgeries/advice sessions in libraries. Information about your councillors is also available from this website.

REGISTERING TO VOTE & ELECTORAL REGISTERS
Nottingham Central Library has the edited version of the City of Nottingham Electoral Register; most local libraries have the edited Registers for their local area.
You can register to vote at the Guildhall in Burton Street or by using the on-line registration facility.
YOUR LOCAL MP
Contact your local library to find out who your MP is and how to contact him. Some MPs hold surgeries/advice sessions in libraries. A list of local MPs is also available from this website.
YOUR MEPs & EUROPEAN ELECTIONS
There are 6 MEPs responsible for the East Midlands region – including Nottinghamshire - your local library has details of who they are and how to contact them. A list of local MEPs is also available from this website.
The last European election was on 10 June 2004
The next European election will be in June 2009
European Parliamentary elections are held every five years, normally in June. The election dates are set by the European Parliament.
At a European election electors vote for a political party instead of voting for an individual candidate. The number of seats that a party gets depends on the share of the vote that it receives in each region.
