Nottingham Connected - computers for all

Picture of computers at Bilborough library

The Internet is the world's fastest growing and most exciting information network with over 50 million users in over 150 countries. On it you can find information on just about every subject including, current affairs, education, business, weather and travel, entertainment, sport, hobbies and today's news as it happens!

Computers are available in all of our libraries
Every City library has at least one computer; some have quite a lot. You can use them to search the Internet, send/receive e-mail and use Microsoft Office programs such as word processing, databases, etc.

Use of the computers is governed by our Computer Use Policy

All of the computers have a floppy disc drive, so you can take your work or Internet searches away with you. Floppy discs can be bought in all libraries. Most of our computers have accessible USB ports which can be used to connect memory sticks, MP3 players, etc.

You can save your work to our computer server; you have up to 5Mb of space. This work will come to you at any library computer that you use.

To have a go
Adult and Young Adult library members can use the service provided they have their library membership card with them and know their PIN (ask staff if you don't know what it is). If you are under 14 you will need written permission from a parent or carer. It is best to book an Internet session in advance as they are very popular - ask staff in any library to book a session for you, and show you how you can book future sessions yourself.

Book yourself a computer Book yourself a computer
You can now book yourself a computer session from this website, so your computer will be ready for you when you arrive at your chosen library - you will need to know your library membership number and your PIN/password. If you are already on one of our computers, then you can book a future session via the "Booking system" icon on the desktop.

Charges
Up to 6 hours per week is available FREE to City/County library members. Non-members can use the computers for a small charge - ask staff for further information

Free One2One computer help sessions for beginners One2One help sessions
If you need help with using a computer, our popular One2One help sessions cover everything from how to use a mouse, to typing your CV, to starting out on Family History research. They are run in many of our libraries and are free to everyone; ask staff for further information.

Scanners
Most of our libraries have a scanner that you can use; it may be wise to ring up and book one in advance. The scanners are self-service but staff will be able to show you the basics if you have never used one before. The list of libraries at the bottom of this page gives you further information.

Printing
Should you wish to print things out  you will be perfectly welcome to do so. We will provide you with the paper and a charge of 30p per sheet (colour) or 10p per sheet (black only) will be made. This charge is reduced by 50% for young people under the age of 16. Every library has a colour inkjet printer and some have black&white laser printers. The Central Library has a high-resolution colour laser printer . Material printed out on this printer is charged at 50p per sheet.
