C - Sound Effects Collection in Libraries

The British Library Sound Archive holds a wide range of recordings that might be classed as sound effects. There are commercial discs and tapes, and unpublished recordings made by Sound Archive staff, private collectors and industry. The collection is primarily made up of the sounds of work and transport. It is a resource for scientists, historians and transport enthusiasts, and provides sound effects for museums, theatre, film and broadcasting, subject to copyright clearance. The Archive also has a very comprehensive collection of all kinds of natural sound effects and different species of wildlife, details of which can be found in the Wildlife Sound pages.
